(9/27-10/1) Weekend Bike Trip

This last weekend was 4 days long due to a holiday so Mr. Debef, Alan, and I went for a bike trip with some of Mr. Debef's friends. We loaded our bikes up after school on Wednesday and took off. The goal was to bike to where the Doubrava river joins with the Elbe and be back by Sunday.

We managed to bike to the village of Uhrinov by dark and slept outside (we didn't pack tents). Fortunately, it did not rain, although it was rather cold in the morning.  We spent the whole day biking, only stopping for drinks and snacks (don't worry Mr. Barak, I didn't drink any beer). We eventually stopped by a campground/lodge that was by a pond to sleep. In the evening I was surprised to see many bats flying over the lake to feed on the insects. I had only seen bats once or twice in my life prior to this, so it was entertaining, especially when they flew right up to us.

This night was much warmer than the last, and we slept facing the moon, which was full and very bright. In the morning we left once again. On this day we made very good progress; we had already reached the intended place to sleep by 1 in the afternoon. We decided to bike on to the next day's destination and take the next day at a more relaxed pace. At around 5 we reached where the rivers merged. We decided to sleep at Třebonín, but it rained on us. Fortunately, we had some shelter nearby. In total we biked around 95 kilometers that day.

On Saturday we continued to bike and stop for drinks and ice cream like the day before, but with longer breaks. One notable place we visited was the geographic center of Czechia in Číhošt´. We biked until it was dark out and slept in the woods.

Sunday was the last day of the trip, and we spent much of it like the days before. Lots of biking and ice cream. There was a 10 kilometer stretch of bike path that was built over an old railroad, and we had a good time zipping down the gentle trail. Most of the journey until then was hilly, so it was nice to ride on a flatter surface for a while.  The last few kilometers of the trip were a blur to me, it seemed like we suddenly just appeared in Jihlava again. I quite enjoyed this trip, I think we will do another one in the spring near the German border.

I will try to remember to post again soon. Thanks for reading!
